Misspelling of the Month
A Meaty Error
April 12, 2013

I found this misspelling on the financial Website, FreeRealTime.com. I think even Ron Swanson, the epic meat-lover of the hilarious TV show, Parks and Recreation, would have trouble eating a four-day steak. Then again, maybe not.
Breaking Bread
December 31, 2012
Sadly, these signs for products at a baker's stall at the Union Square Greenmarket in New York City don't do justice to the enticing breads that they advertise. Each sign has a spelling mistake.
Coffee Break
October 30, 2012

It's becoming clear that a great number of the misspellings displayed here have to do with food. This advertising card from the Plaza Diner in Fort Lee, New Jersey, for example, has a triumvirate of mistakes. (And the spelling of cappuccino isn't one of them.) Can you find all three?
And the Razzie Goes to...
August 15, 2012

Sorry, but we have to give a big Bronx cheer to the Fairway supermarket in Paramus, New Jersey, for boldly displaying this misspelling in their produce section. Note: I happened to go back to the store a few days later and the error was fixed. Someone must be keeping tabs on "Misspelling of the Month."
Not So Sweet
July 1, 2012
Roni Glasthal snapped this serious misspelling at a health food store on 5th Avenue and St. Marks in Park Slope, Brooklyn. What is the world coming to when people can't even spell chocolate correctly?
Rules To Eat By
May 15, 2012

Thanks to Diane Neumann for our first Misspelling of the Month guest contribution! Diane snapped this shot in Phoenix, Arizona, where this restaurant seems to have rules for everything except misspellings. Can you find their error?
Sour Notes
April 1, 2012

Do you know how bad karaoke can make you cringe? Well, the spelling on this sign, seen at a restaurant on Greenwich Avenue in New York City, has the same effect on me. All the typesetter had to do was copy the spelling on the graphic!
Words To Live By (Almost)
March 1, 2012

While the customer may always be right, this sign on a bulletin board display at the Food & Finance High School in New York City has a repeated spelling mistake, as well as some questionable grammar. And where's the punctuation?
Bargain Basement
February 1, 2012

Does spelling really matter when the price is so low? You bet it does! An extra "S" and a misplaced dollar sign were enough to mar any bargain hunter's day. Taken in the Corningware store at the Woodbury Common Premium Outlets in Central Valley, New York.
Unhappy Hour
January 1, 2012

French words are tricky. Even so, we'd expect a pricey restaurant like the Assembly to refrain from throwing up letters indiscriminately and check a dictionary before broadcasting their mistake to all passers-by. Taken in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey.
Bagel Bob's
December 1, 2011

Who knew that "sandwiches" was such a hard word for bagel vendors to spell? This is the second bagel store we caught misspelling the word. (See April 2011 for the first.) Today's mistake is courtesy of Bagel Bob's in Greenwich Village, New York. Bob's bagels are great. His spelling? Not so much.
We Buy Anything
November 1, 2011

I saw this sign in September, but fortunately it was still there when I went back two months later. Besides the stunning spelling mistake, I wish there were another period in OK. Found on Lakeview Avenue near Crooks Avenue in Paterson, New Jersey.
Happy Halloween!
October 1, 2011

A juicy misspelling, straight from the streets of New York.
Our of Order
July 1, 2011

And out of luck, whether you're seeking to quench your thirst for water or proofreading expertise.
Loopy Directions
May 1, 2011

If you "bare" right, the fun is just beginning.
Bagel Store

One photo; two misspellings. Can you find them? (Hint: Bialys is spelled correctly.)

Misspelling of the Month
I don't often turn to Chinese restaurant menus for misspellings because they can be easy targets. But this one invented a new word that has a bit of charm. Quite accidentally, it's the second "steak"-related Misspelling of the Month in a row. So thanks to Empire Szechuan Village on Seventh Avenue, South, in New York City for this meaty mistake. (Of course, "waterchestnut" should be plural and two words as well.)
