National Women Cycling Forum

February 13, 2012

I will be the keynote speaker at the first-ever National Women Cycling Forum in Washington, D.C., on March 20, 2012. The forum aims to raise awareness about the gap in cycling between men and women and formulate strategies for encouraging more women to ride. Currently, women take only about 24 percent of all bike trips in the United States.

My talk on the history of American women and cycling will kick off the discussion. Other speakers include Elysa Walk, General Manager of Giant Bicycles, Inc.; Marla Streb, World Mountain Bike Champion; Andrea Garland, Planner, Alta Planning & Design; Veronica Davis, Founder, Black Women Bike D.C.; Kimberly White, Youth Advocate, Recycle-A-Bicycle; and Nelle Pierson, Events Coordinator, Washington Area Bicyclist Association.

Registration for the event, which runs from 2 to 4 p.m., is free and available here. For the official press release, click here. The forum is being held in conjunction with the 2012 National Bike Summit.
